Layer.Studio head to Newcastle for their Christmas Social
For our recent Christmas social, the Manchester and Bristol Studios headed north to the Newcastle Studio
Our Christmas social began with the whole team gathering at our Newcastle studio, catching up in our local workspace before stepping out to explore the city’s standout public realm. A quick stop for giant pizza slices on the banks of the Tyne provided the perfect fuel for an afternoon of urban exploration.
As the winter sun dipped, we headed into the heart of the Ouseburn. Known for its creative energy and industrial grit, it provided a backdrop that feels familiar to those of us who live and work in Manchester. But before the evening festivities, we had our annual Christmas activity to contend with: Lino Printing. Design is as much about the hands as it is the head. Getting back to basics with ink and linoleum offered a meditative break from digital renders. It was a chance to see each other’s creative instincts in a different light—sharing ideas and laughing at our occasional lack of technical skill, though never a lack of enthusiasm.
Beyond the art and the architecture, this trip was a moment to reflect on a significant year for Layer.studio. We’ve seen our presence grow across the UK, most notably with the opening of our Bristol Studio and the exciting new opportunities that move has catalysed.
These socials are more than just a break from the screen; they are the glue of our studio. By socialising, exploring, and creating together, we build the trust and collective curiosity that fuels our best work. Refreshed by the landscape of the North, we’re ready for everything the new year holds.
