Nestled within Booths Park, a scenic 220-acre estate in the historic town of Knutsford, is the Booths Park Courtyard - destination for rural innovation and business growth. Managed by Bruntwood SciTech, this thriving countryside hub seamlessly blends characterful heritage - by the historic 1745 Booths Hall - with contemporary, flexible workspaces spread across eight buildings.
Blending work, nature and lifestyle seamlessly
While the estate provides an exceptional landscape for rural innovation, the central Booths Courtyard had become a relatively hard, sterile space dominated by rigid paving and a high-maintenance artificial water feature. The core challenge was to transform this underutilised environment into an inviting, flexible outdoor hub that bridges natural beauty and contemporary business productivity.
Neurons and Nodes
Within the Booth Park Courtyard, "neurons" dictate fluid path networks and pedestrian movement, while "nodes" anchor distinct destination, event, and social gathering spaces. We redesigned the layout to map functional zones, including office and cafe spill-out areas and flexible event spaces. Central to the intervention was a sustainable reimagining of the existing hard-paved water feature. We proposed organic, cascading planting to soften the vertical masonry steps, replacing the intensive pumped system with still, water-tolerant bio-ponds.
